✍🏻Today's presentation ِ
is on Ovarian Cysts⬇
✳Introduction
Ovarian cysts are small fluid-filled sacs that develop in a woman's ovaries.
Most cysts are harmless but some may cause problems such as rupture, bleeding or pain. The cysts can develop in females at any stage of life, from neonatal to post menopause.
Most ovarian cysts however develop during adolescence since this period is the hormonally active period of development.
Most cysts are functional in nature and resolve without treatment.
However, an ovarian cyst can herald an underlying malignant process, or possibly, distract the clinician from a more serious condition such as ectopic pregnancy or appendicitis.
✳Types of Ovarian Cysts
✳The most common types of ovarian cysts are:
1. Functional cyst
2. Dermatoid cyst
3. Endometriomas
4. Polycystic ovaries
5. Luteoma of pregnancy
✳Types of Functional Cysts
A. Follicular cyst: this type of functionaسـcan be formed when ovulation does not occur ( when the eggs are not released). A follicular cyst usually forms at the time of ovulation, and can grow to about 2-3 inches in diameter. Usually.
These cysts produce no symptoms and disappear by themselves within a few weeks or months.
B. Corpus luteum cyst: A corpus luteum cyst is a functional ovarian cyst that occurs after an egg has been released from a follicle.
Following ovulation, the follicle forms the corpus luteum which usually breaks down and disappears if pregnancy does not occur.
If the corpus luteum does not break down, it may be filled with fluid or blood and persist in the ovary. This cyst is usually found on only one side and produces no symptoms

Functional cyst
A functional cyst is formed when an egg is not released after the egg sac is formed or when the egg sac closes up after releasing the egg. In these situations, the sac swells up with fluid, forming the functional cyst.
Most functional cysts are harmless.
They do not cause symptoms and often go away without treatmet
